I’m determined to learn how to make awesome duvet covers. I would love to make like ten and just switch between them as I please. I finally got around to buying a duvet a couple weeks ago, (“finally” because it cost like forty damn bucks. Have I mentioned lately that bedding is too damn expensive?) but it is still sitting in the big blue IKEA bag in its original packaging because I am horrified of it.
How do I measure fabric big enough to cover a duvet? Once I make it, how do I get the duvet in there? Won’t it just bunch up in the middle? Obviously, I was not raised around duvets. They are new territory.
Anyway, I was searching around for some good duvet tutorials, and once again Tipnut came to the rescue. I love that site – it is seriously one of my most-used online resources. Tipnut posted a round-up of duvet cover tutorials in November, and there are a few I’m thinking of attempting.
I’ve got it in my head that one day I’ll make a faux-traditional quilt duvet cover, but it might be a good idea for me to try out this more simple patchwork piece first. The tutorial is from Craft Stylish. Wouldn’t it be cute in vintage florals? Or shades of gray? Or shades of yellow?
This quilted duvet cover tutorial from handmade mommy isn’t really my style (far enough from my style that I don’t really want to post the picture), but I think the tutorial will be really useful.
Okay. I love this. Aren’t those ruffles the best? I would love to make this duvet cover from kiki creates. Also, the internet is a small world. The lady who created this duvet cover was inspired by a wedding dress that my across-the-street neighbor created.
I think I will make my first duvet using this tutorial and some bargain-bin cotton, so I can get the hang of making large pieces.
Comforters ALWAYS bunch into the middle of the duvet cover. Zade has the once a week job of diving INTO the duvet cover and lining the corners up. I have taken to tying the corners it’s so bad. The ultimate duvet would be one in which there was a way to line the comforter up with the cover and keep them that way. This is a huge duvet problem that nobody ever told me about. Of course, this would almost force you to change your duvet covers a lot. Perfect!
the one with the ruffles is soooo good. i have a vintage tutorial that seems easy. i’ll try to remember to scan it.
