At yesterday’s craft party (pictures impending) I taught a few lovely ladies how to knit, but now I feel like they’re just babes in the wooly woods, with no real direction. Just a knowledge of how to cast on, knit and purl. So I thought I’d collect a few patterns for beginning knitters. All the patterns are from Lion Brand, because their free pattern library is so extensive, well-organized and cleanly-written. And also I’m too lazy to do more searching than that.
Click the pictures to find the pattern, and happy knitting!

Cute finds! I have a soft spot in my heart for the Lion Brand mega-fat yarn. Also, I firmly believe in first-project hats and wristwarmer thingies. They knit up fairly quickly so you get that glowy-warm sense of achievement right off the bat. I’m not very good at edges so in my 5+ yarning years, I’ve finished like a scarf and a half
Stinky work, I want to go make things right nowww!
Thank you! I think hats and wristwarmers are excellent for first projects, too. Scarves just take so looooong. Have you tried slipping the first stitch in every row when working on something with edges? That really tidies things up. It’s not the best for seaming, but for scarves it’s lovely.
Woah! Hats?! Wrist-warmers? That seems complicated; isn’t there a hole in those? Thanks though, Mel, I’m excited to give these a try!
These ones are pretty simple; especially those blue ones. They’re just rectangles seamed up one side with a hole in the seam for your thumbs. And the hats are knit as rectangles, too.
