This is my latest tattoo. I’m in love with it, and here’s why:
- It was a reward for reaching a goal in Grady’s savings account. I’ve been planning on it for quite a while, and I love it for that reason. Not to say that I don’t love my more impulsive tattoos.
- I just love tattoos that are clean lines, with no shading or color. As my tastes change, I may add shading or something to this one, but the way my artist did this is perfect.
- It’s a picture of the ship Serenity, from the TV show Firefly (the title of this post is a quote from the show). I love the show like mad, and the next few bullets are about why:
- Cowboys in space.
- The show is about a man who has already lost his big battle. It’s about what happens next. The stubborn perseverance of the entire cast is something that I really admire. Honestly, I have a hard time really explaining why the story is so important to me.
- Also, COWBOYS IN SPACE. Just watch the show.
- Moving on: I felt like my other three tattoos were kind of an under-representation of who I am. Because I’m kind of a huge dork. This balances everything out.
- When I walk, I’m making a spaceship fly through the air. Silly as that sounds, it gives me genuine confidence. I know my family doesn’t like that I get tattoos, but, well, that’s okay. You’ll still love me and I’ll still love you and we can all be who we are without having to worry about disappointment or judgment.
- I think my grandpa would have really loved Firefly.
- This tattoo is a higher level of commitment than my others, since it’s right on my hip. It’s an acceptance that this is my body and I’m sticking to it.
- DID I MENTION COWBOYS IN SPACE?
